Perfume Pagoda is 70 km southwest of Hanoi. It is in fact a vast complex of Buddhist temples and shrines built into the limestone Huong Tich mountains. It is the site of a religious festival which draws large numbers of pilgrims from across Vietnam.  

 The religious shrines known as the 'Perfume Pagodas' are one of Northern Vietnam's most popular places for visitors. Set in deep limestone grottoes, the shrines are sacred to many of the world's Buddhists, so you share the experience with many religious pilgrims. Travel 70-km by van to the countryside. Take a sampan along the gentle Yen River, visiting Trinh Temple. Then have a walk up the mountain to visit Thien Tru Pagoda and the main cave of Huong Tich. Enjoy the beautiful scenery. Lunch at a restaurant. Back to Hanoi late afternoon. (L)
